Lui Faat Keung, Fred, University of Hawaii at Manoa, U.S.A.

Day 1

Super beautiful scenery from my friend’s host home. It is located at the centre of the town. The mountain is the symbol of Oahu – Diamond Head. We can see awesome sunrise and sunset there. Guess how much HKD you need to pay for a double floor flat like this? The answer is HKD3 million. I am not kidding but the apartment price is much more reasonable outside Hong Kong.

Day 2

Waikiki beach is famous around the world. It is also the most popular beach in Oahu. Life in Hawaii can be as relax as lying on the beach with some relaxing music or a book for a whole day. We often go there because it is near downtown and we enjoy shopping and surfing at the same time. When you stay with friends, you will feel time flies easily indeed.

Day 3

First time to hike in Diamond Head. It is not really difficult to get in. It should be counted as beginner level among the hiking trails in Oahu. Since Oahu itself is an island, there are a lot of adventure trails there. Some of them are already prohibited by the government but people still go there for excitement. This time, I participated in a day trip organized by the student club. The trip will travel to the east side and the south side of Oahu. Diamond Head is one stop in the trip. At the top, we can have beautiful scenes of Oahu. It includes the scene of the most famous beach – Waikiki beach.

Day 4

Trick or treats?? Fabulous moment to have Halloween day in a western country!! All people dressed up in different customs. Guess what did I dress? Lol, I dressed up as a Hula dancer. Hula is one traditional dancing in Hawaii. I also asked girls to lend me the bracelet as well. People are crowded in Waikiki. At that time, we wanted to gather our friends, but the mobile signal is jammed because there are too much people in that area. We all had great time at that night and took a lot of photos. After that, we still have a hotel party. Life is always cool in Hawaii.

Day 5

Time to travel to another island. Oahu is the most popular island among the islands in Hawaii. Apart from that, some visitors will try to go to some other islands as well.  This time, we chose Big Island to go. We have reserved 2 cars and 12 people go there together. Big Island is famous for the volcano and the highest mountain in the world. We went to the volcano national park and the scenes there are awesome. Somehow I feel it is more epic than The Grand Canyon. We also drove the car to the mountain with 2000 meters above sea level. (We might reach high as 4000 meters above sea level.) The moon we saw there was ultimately big. It seems we can catch the moon by our hands. Interesting is that, we need to prepare winter clothing at the time we went there. (It is Hawaii, you know!)

Lee Ming, Queensland University of Technology, Australia

17/02/2014

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) which located in Brisbane is a famous University in Queensland and even Australia. There are 3 campuses in QUT and they are 10 minutes’ drive far away. The campus blends historical buildings and modern architecture. Although QUT established 30 years ago, its former education center has formed more than 50 years. Therefore, the management team of QUT hopes to protect and retain the collective memories. Students can explore the history and enjoy the classic decoration by walking in the campus.

18/02/2014

There are around 20-30% international students each year so QUT organizes many orientation activities for international and exchange students. River Cruise is one of them. During the River Cruise, all students do not simply enjoy the stunning view of the shores but also made friends with other international students. International students are from all over the world including Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Africa. Through chatting with them, I can learn some simple local language, their cultures and even their stories. Everyone seems like a story book. If you open the book and communicate with it, you can learn from them!

19/02/2014

The city I was living was Brisbane, which is the 3rd largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland. Australians love nature and they are keen on protecting the environment. Therefore, for the sake of reducing greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, Brisbane Government encourages citizens to go to school and work by bicycle. Bicycles are allowed to be rented by citizens and they just need to park the bicycle in a specific area. Riding a bicycle is much cheaper than taking a bus so many people regard bicycle as their major transportation. By walking in the street, we can find how good is the Government does to protect the environment and lift up citizens’ living standard.

27/02/2014

I have taken 5 courses in QUT. I have to attend classes 4 days a week. Australian students or international students study hard no matter in or after class. Also, they actively participate in the class activities such as asking questions and answering professors during classes. Sometimes, they play as an active role in discussing homework with classmates.

25/04/2014

Strong communication and problem-solving skills are a must in a group work. Through group project, I am able to get closer to local students and learn their culture. Some of them are Australians and some of them are Malaysians. Different cultural background does not form a hurdle in our communication. Even so, we have got different ideas to improve our project work and performance. Most importantly, we have shared our own experience and built our friendship!

Nicole Yip, Audencia Nantes Ecole de Management, France

10/03/2014

This modern architecture is my host university. On that day, I have a European business environment class. This is my favorite subject because the professor let us explore and he have much knowledge about euro business practice and environment which is quite interesting to students like me from Asian. Also, there are many discussions on the class that we can exchange our ideas with students from European countries.

11/03/2014

Every Tuesday is French class. Although French is very difficult to learn, the teacher is very nice and she has made a fantastic booklet for us to learn French more easily. She has prepared a lot of games and divided us into pairs to encourage us to speak more French. Since the class is conducted in French instead of English, we think it is much more difficult to learn or even impossible to understand what the teacher is talking about. However, we later found out that in this way we can learn French faster. I think it is the same as that we learn English with native teachers.

12/03/2014

On this day, we have invited other exchange students to our course as guests to have a taste of Chinese food. You know, it is sometimes difficult to cook typical Chinese food overseas due to ingredient constraints. At last, we decided to cook a Chinese soup, Coka-Cola chicken wings and steam eggs etc…Our guests like the dinner so much and asked us to teach them! They invited us to be their guests and cooked their country cuisine next time.

13/03/2014

On this day we have joined an activity called International Food Exhibition, which is organized by students from human resources class. The food shown in the exhibition is prepared by students who think they can represent their countries best, including China, Korea, India, Morocco and England etc…Although we, Hong Kong people, did not prepare food in the exhibition, but we got lots of fun by tasting the food in different countries!

14/03/2014

On Friday, we have organized a picnic in the place near our school to welcome our weekend. I think picnic on endless grassland is a must in exchange life because it is difficult to do so in Hong Kong due to lack of time and place. Each of us prepared our own food and we enjoyed the rest of time by playing games and taking photos. In the end, we also enjoyed the beautiful sunset!!
